I have been swamped...buried is more like it with work since I returned from Nashville.  My final deadline is almost done and I needed a break so I built a call for my cousin and our up coming Indiana Hunt in 2 weeks.  This will be it until hunting season is done.  Cherry over Red Willow.  The Willow is from a sticker from a flat bed truck trailer I got it in Indiana when I visited last September.  It looked good to me and it made a stand tall sounding caller.  Since he is my cousin and we hunt together each year I did more of elaborate countryside scene for him.  Thanks for looking.

Archibald Rutledge had this to say about willow..."I like willow the best because of the quality of the wood, the smooth texture and the high tension of the grain, and the mellow tone that can be drawn from such a box".

Beautiful call Scott.  Good luck hunting and enjoy the down time.  That wood burner needs to cool off a bit.  *lol*

Dave, for the longest time I couldn't figure out what species it was.  I had a good gut feeling it would work and make a great call...everything about it seemed right.  I kept digging and then ran across an old friend who is a forestry engineer and he always had an interest in wood ID.  He had all sorts of great references for us to study and we finally decided on Red Willow.  I have enough for 2 more calls and the wood burning works positively super...easily as good as burning red cedar, nice true line and ideal for shading.

Steve, I am Sooooo... ready for this hunting trip, I'll be sharing a tree or two with our good ole big earred Kentucky boys before Indiana, so much fun and good laughs to come soon *up* *dance* *dance*
