Title: Georgia mountain double beard
Post by: jmck on March 27, 2014, 01:28:51 PM
Been in the mountains of NW Georgia this week harassing or trying to harass em. The birds have gobbled on the roost , to fly down and slap shut up. I have been talking in tounges!!!!! Went onto the ridge where I know 5 birds have been roosting this week, slipped in, sat down, and not a peep was heard  *wha*. I sat tight for almost an hour and began slipping through the property. I have been carrying a special mate to a set Ernie Fetters made for me and brought to Nashville for me, along with a "FANCY" ...HEE -HAW caller as he called it. I wanted to call a bird to the gun with this trumpet and return it to it proper place--in its display case in my Trophy room proudly displayed. Well, today was its day and I am proud to say. The ole bird hit and gobbled at it well, and I threw in a few yelps on the famed HEE -HAW caller for added measure. The bird drug in 3 other longbeards and around 9 hens as he gobbled to Ernies craftsmanship . The bird had a great double beard and a dandy set of spurs--that also brought blood from my hand. I am finally on the board in Georgia, thanks Ernie for the great call.
Heres the set:

the results of Ernies work....

and the results of looking at the bouble beard when the bird decided to start flopping in my hand after not moving at all...

Say what you will, but I got to play the "HEE HAW" call and it can produce some really fine soft yelps and clucks. Congrats on another nice gobbler. Still three weeks away from getting after them in VA.

Jeff, Congrats on a awesome Georgia gobbler called up with a great call from Mr. Fetters! *up*
Have a little shine to ease the pain of that spurred hand of yours.  I am assuming he had dandy hooks on him.
