Title: Bamboo/river cane

Not sure if this is where I should put this, but here goes.

I've got a few questions about bamboo and river cane.

1. When is the best time of the year to cut both?
2. Is one preferred over the other as material for a yelper?
3. What kind of drying time is needed for both?
4. When cutting, where to cut--joint?

this is what i have been told. i hope it helps.

1. cut it in the winter. the sap is down and it will dry faster

3.my friend cuts his in the winter and lets it dry for a year

4. cut at the joint

"It is bad to spilt, I cut it on the out side of the joints and use one jiont when I make the call ,   and drill a whole in the joint.   

You can cut it any time of the year as far as I know.


Dont use swithcane ,   it looks like bamboo but it is too thined walled ,  it will bust wide open. 

you can cut and make a call that day with it,   as it dries it will turn yellow or brown." This is from Robin "Preacher" He builds these all the time
