Finally getting a chance to head to the woods after another stent put in 3 weeks ago. Cardiologist gave me the go ahead. Plan on hunting 3 days with some of my old calls but will carry this one for a special field test. I want to see how it works on some Old Mississippi Longbeards. It is headed very soon to challenge some Old West Virginia Longbeards. I used one of my last two pieces of Baby Doll walnut. I was saving them for a couple of special calls for my vest, but got talked out of them for a Special Turpin and East of the Slash Cutter. Here is the Turpin complete with top hat nails in the top hat like Mr. Turpin did. It is set in a piece of Texas Ebony.

LT you know what the difference between a Mississippi Gobbler coming in to your calls, and a West Virginia Gobbler?
*ride* The Mississippi Gobbler has his head shaking and swinging to keep the mosquitoes off his head *aah*
If you have never seen it, It is a sight to see.

Not many have seen the original Turpin Shortbox. I guess that is why they go for so much. Here is a picture of an original that my mentor let me use after he had a stroke. I used it for 13 years. He got it originally from Tom Turpin after WWII and used it along the Mississippi River here in the Delta. I wish this old box could talk. You will notice that my mentor cut a hole in the handle. He carried it in an old Army Issue Jacket pocket, with the leather lanyard always around his neck. He did that so it would not bounce out of his pocket. Glad he did. It preserved a piece of history.

That's a good lookin' call, buddy, you'd better watch out for the blue smoke boys! Gail said you had surgery. Glad to hear you are out and about. Some gobblers are gonna pay the ultimate price, I'll bet!

With a storm moving in last night and prospects for an AM hunt this morning not looking good. I had slipped off to a new club in the hills and set up in a couple of places. With the wind blowing 25-30 and spitting rain, I changed tactics and started riding the ridgetops, coasting, getting out and doing locator calls on a cutting call. The only thing that answered me before dark was the Mrs. wanting to know "where in the heck I Was." --- That one was hard to explain considering I was 2 hours 45 minutes from the house. Lot of turkey sign there and have an area picked out for Sat. AM. Bringing some young ears to listen for the birds. Heck, all that duck blasting when I was younger has taken a toll on my hearing. It's tough getting old with this sport.

Counting all my blessings these days. Had my son's young ears with me this AM. It rained so hard, that did not even help. Glad to have a morning with him regardless. He pulled me out of more holes along this one creek. After a while, I lost track. When we got back to the truck, he said he was tired, and he does crossfit almost every day. I told him I had enough exercise to last a good month, cause it was going to take me that long to recover. Mr. E ROTFLMBO
