I got some juniper from a friend a few days ago. It is a very dense wood full of eyes and character. I soaked the call in BLO for 24 hours before finishing. Buffalo horn mouthpiece

Juniper is a nice wood, ole Scotty Goodman used it a lot, Makes for a Nice Lookin Caller.

Yes it does Steve, a lot denser wood than most would think. You won't scratch it very easily with your fingernail. BLO is boiled linseed oil. It makes the grain pop on a lot of woods and is used a furniture finish. I don't use it for a finish, just to get the pop in the wood

i have a question,,, does doing a "BLO" , work for all kind of wood or what??? chris

Not necessarily.  It won't do a lot of good on most ebony, cocobolo or osage. But a real grainy wood will be good. It will darken the wood somewhat.
I have enough for three more trumpets.  I think I will have an order shortly for one of those leaving two
