I visit several turkey call/hunting forums and look at the turkey calls for sale in their classifieds. I also look at the turkey calls listed on eBay. There seems to be a lot of really nice calls wherever I go. It appears the calls from a select few call makers sell well and are in demand. But for the most part used turkey calls don’t seem to be selling very well. And if they do sell they are at prices way below what they sold for when new. I am curious if you think it is due to the economy, the market being saturated, time of the year, or???? Looking forward to your thoughts.

Me personally, I think it's all three. The economy is bad, the market has been saturated for a good while, and the time of year is bad. Christmas was just over. Plus people are getting ready for nationals, so nobody is buying used calls. IMO

Yep, noticed this trend starting about 3 years ago and progressively getting worse. I'd say it's due to all the above you mentioned. The economy probably being the most significant.--Jason

I would say economy first but would also lay some of it on this. If a callmaker is build a fine call chances are he has quite a few customers who have already gotten one of their calls and unless you are a collector how many calls does one person really need.
IMO; I think this is what happens: When you first start building calls you are building a lot of calls to learn, then you get known for building a good call sales increase and you build even more to meet the demand, then your orders start to slow down because everyone already has one (lack of market). This will make it harder for someone to resale one of your calls (unless it is something special). We all know some callmakers who closely controls how many calls are built and sold every year to keep the demand higher(good business). Now these callmakers will be in higher demand than the callmaker who builds them like there is no tomorrow. BUT with this all said there are those who only build a few very good calls and don't build very many calls a year due to any number of reason and these calls will have a higher demand because there is less of them. I have customers tell me all the time "I ordered a call from so in so and he said it would be a year and a half to two years before I get one". To me that alone proved what I said to be true. As for me, I figure if someone wants a call I'll try and get it built but that's just me. If I run out of business I'll have more time to hunt and fish...You each to there own.

I'd break this question down into two parts.
1) Period calls: such as Cost, Adams, Gibson, Turpin. There are fewer collectors out there than five years ago, who are looking for these calls and that is driving prices down.
2) Modern call makers: A great deal of talented folks are building calls and w/ such a variety to choose from, folks are sticking w/ the call makers they are comfortable with. Many talented makers are suffering because of this. This to me, is a normal market phenomenon.

I personally will not buy a used call I don't care who the call is made by. I am an average Joe not a collector. I buy calls from guys who I have built a personal connection with. I have an MKW trumpet, a Mark Sharpe wishbone and Jordan helper and a Beardhunter long box. Are there better call makers than these three? Maybe, but the friendships I've made with these guys Is why I buy customcalls.

Richard nailed it, but there are a couple of other reasons also. If your seeing a lot of calls from the same builder showing up on forums for resale, that throws a red flag up, and people wonder why? Most sellers say there is nothing wrong with the calls, or they are a great sounding call, OK so then why are you selling it? Most true tukey hunters don't sell a great sounding call, no matter what the economy is, so that sends the red flag up. The WONDER of it is what keeps the prices down, there may be nothing wrong with the call what so ever, they may need chash or the call may not be to their liking in sound or something eles? A lot of collectors are taking a serious look at their collections and wondering why they have what they have 200 box calls, 150 pot calls, 300 strikers, you know you'll never use a fraction of any of them, but the curiosity of finding the holy grail turkey call keeps you buying more. The other factor is IMO that the liking of tukey call sounds have changed with the hunters. A few years ago everybody wanted a high pitched clean sounding call, now todays market wants more of a rough raspy sounding call, so the sales market changes, and if your trying to sell an old popular call from a few years back, you may have problems selling it now, because it's a sound that people wanted back then, but have changed what they want now?

Another reason, may be, that fella's have found the calls, that work for them & have confidence in using, so they have no need for any more calls....
Used or new....
The addiction has worn off or cash flow has been poor adds to the reasoning as well

The only thing that drives the price of calls is supply how many you make a year or you are dead "they will never be any more" if you make a good call this will set the price your calls will bring.

collectors market got ridiculous a few years ago.
