I have been wanting to buy a Charles Hudson trumpet for some time now. I would get ready to make the call to Mr. Hudson and something would come up where I would need the money. I was planning on getting one this spring but a buddy was able to swing by Mr. Billy Buice's shop and so I used the money for one of his Osage Trumpets and got a couple mouthpieces with it. Will I sold a few pieces of hunting equipment I had and I was going to get the Hudson with no questions asked.
I got Mr. Hudson's number from my mentor and made the call. I explained to him who I was, where I got his number from, and what I was seeking. He asked me what wood and mouthpiece I was looking to get after telling me what he had. I told him that just like with Mr. Buice, I wanted whatever he recommended and only preferred his buffalo horn mouthpiece. He stated that he had a blank of Lignum Vitae that he thought was a great grain and would make a great call. I said that is the one I want then.
He called me last Friday and stated he was working on my mouthpiece and as it turned the buffalo horn a worm hole showed up just as he almost had it where he wanted. He got to thinking what he could do and said he had a stag horn that he decided to turn and see how it sounded in the call. He thought it sounded great but wanted to make sure I was alright with the change. I said that if he liked how it sounded who was I to turn it down. He assured me if I was not happy to let him know and he would make and send me a buffalo horn mouthpiece.
Well after a month or so of waiting I finally received my trumpet yesterday, it was well worth the wait. I am very happy with the stag horn mouthpiece as I feel it makes it stand out from a few others I have seen he has made. It does awesome soft and loud yelps as well as crisp, sharp clucks and cutts. I am so happy to finally have this piece of art in my collection and it will be around my neck this coming spring!

Not only have I gathered a great addition to my collection but have made a friend that I very much enjoy talking to. Mr. Hudson is an excellent hunter and is willing to share a few tips with you if you are willing to listen. He added a few photos of some bucks he has on his farm and they are some great deer. I will continue speaking with Mr. Hudson and if you ever get the opportunity to speak with him then embrace it. He is a fine fellow and I will always treasure this trumpet he has made for me!
When I have the funds my next trumpet will be a Mike Williams. Thanks!
