Title: Saturday Boston Butt
Post by: CarolinaGobbler on July 29, 2013, 07:37:41 PM
Wanted to share my BBQ pork shoulder that I smoked this weekend.   I decided to try out a new BBQ rub as well as a new injection marinade.  I have to tell you, this produced the best quality bbq that has come out of my smoker yet!  I used a combination of "The BBQ Rub" by Killer Hogs bbq and a "Smoke on Wheels" injection marinade.  I let the butt sit over night after I injected it.  There is some magic in this stuff let me tell you!

This rub makes a great color on the meat.

I made a baste instead of a mop this time as well.  It was made up of veg oil, some bbq rub, water, apple cider vinegar and some soy sauce.  I basted it every two hours instead of using a spray every hour or so.  I think it turned out a more consistent temp for the duration of the cook.  Wasn't opening the smoker every so often.

Topped it with some homemade cole slaw!  Sorry for the blurry last pic!  Turned out purty good!!

Hunter I got the marinade from Big Poppa Smokers.  You can get to the link here: https://www.bigpoppasmokers.com/store/bbq-sauce/sauces-for-pork  It's a great injection with pineapple juices and some other ingredients that really bring out the flavor of pork.  The BBQ Rub is also really great.  It has some nice sweet and heat built in!  I wish I had come up with it!   ;D
