What moisture meter do you guys use/recommend?

Yeah, pretty pricey. Lol. Can't be affording that Al.

Hi Patrick, We use a Delmhorst J- 2000 . It is very accurate and has 48 species settings. It costs a little over $ 300.
We think it is worth it to us since we sell wood. I think a cheaper model would work fine for your uwn use. I would get one with pins and not just a surface tester.
