?????

Here is a Cornbread strumpet. The only similarities I see are that they are both longer than a normal tube call and have a bell.

  ???

I don't see much of a defference. You can piant black strip's on a white pig and call it a zebra but the truth is it's still a pig!! ;)

I guess if you put enough make-up and lipstick on anything you can hide its true colors.

have similarities, but not the same call by a long shot. Sure they both sound great though.  Mike

Looks cool . Definately not a strumpet though . The Strumpet is a yelper , more like a turned barrel trumpet call . Chuck, your call looks more like a long tube call . At any rate , it looks good.

Looks good. I bet it's sound good as well. I made one a couple years ago. They sound great. Mine, like yours, is just a longer tube call with a flared bell end.

Looks good Chuck!  *up*

Just looks like a long tube call to me....IMO, that "Strumpet" looks more like a trumpet call than a tube call.

I haven't the slightest idea what a Strumpet is...but frankly that doesn't matter in this 'case'.  I do see a photograph of what is Strumpet is--thanks Rickey for posting, and I do see a picture of what Chuck has called a tube call and the only minor similarities I can find are the characteristc of a bell, however, they are different in themselves with one being smaller than the other and one much thinner.  Having said that, I know of no less than 40+ callmakers who build trumpets all with bells on them, but they are not at all similar to eachother, however they are all trumpets, whereas in this case one IS at Tube Call and the other IS a Strumpet--that I can see with my eyes. The other similarity is what appears to be a somewhat extended length on Chucks Tube Call as opposed to the more 'traditional' shorter tube call I am used to seeing.  Now I do know what a tube call typically looks like, but there again, I know of at least 20? callmakers who build tubes calls, all of which do have similar general characterictics, but I am not sure how that could be clearly avoided.  I also do know what a tube call sounds like, though I don't know how to run one myself, but I have heard Chuck run his design of a tube call, like the one pictured here, and it has more range and volume than any other tube call I have ever heard.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to return to the shop to continue making those Neil Cost Short Box knockoffs *aah* *bannana*.

Just my 2 cents worth. Corn Bread has a design patent on his call, which includes a description, encompassing length. It might be a good idea to read that design patent before, all the high fives. A tube call is a tube call. Years ago (1980), Dick Kirby used a tube call that was made from PCV tube that was six inches in length, in the "World All Around Championship" that Jim Clay use to hold, in Winchester, Va.

Original K&H tube call. 4 inches in length. 1970's

Arnie Jonathan tube call, six inches in length.  Note date on call.

So, does "Cornbread" have a design patent on a "Tube" Call, or a "Strumpet"?  I'm pretty sure it's the latter, which is different than a tube call, or everyone would be making one just like every other turkey call.  :o

It's obvious to me by looking at the picture of the "Stumpet", compared to the K&H tube, AJ's tube, and Chuck's tube that they don't even come close to looking like a Strumpet.

Is there anyway somebody can find that patent and post it. I've never seen or read a patent and would be interested in checking it out. Thanks,

As stated above, a "tube call, is a tube call"! CB's call is called, a "Strumpet", but is in point of fact, a tube call....not a "Trumpet". Looks have nothing to do with how the call functions. Latex is stretched over the top and air is blown into the call. Numerous designs of tube calls exist, to include, Bart Jacobs, Barney LaRue, Red Wolfe (square), and V.O. Johnson's Natural Tone (rectangular in shape w/ a hen side and a gobbler side).

Strumpet is a term used for, harlot.

I agree with you Bill and I add the following..
It may push some buttons with some here as I see a few callmaker friends taking up for fellow callmaker friends.  With that being said how would one of you take it if yourself, a family member or close friend had a design patent which took the time and money to get and someone infringed upon it?
Furthermore I would expect this out of the corporate commercial world that we live in but I dislike seeing it in the small "custom" callmaking world.

Someday perhaps Cornbread will start making calls again and hopefully then it will become easier for others to respect and honor his patent.  It is a beautiful and functional design that I have seen several try to replicate in many ways..

I have to agree. Corn Bread spent a bunch of time and money to get his patent. He and I have had some words in the past, in a which came first argument. But, I respect his work and his effort to receive that patent. The fact that he has been down and out, doesn't diminish those efforts nor the respect I have for him.

Bill and John, please enlighten me. I am a novice compared to you guys when it comes to calls. All I do is use them for hunting tools. I have several calls but certainly do not consider myself a collector. I would love to see a copy of the patent and see how many tube call makers have infringed upon it if any. I thought Cornbread's patent was for incorporating a tube call mouth onto a trumpet body? If his patent is for exact length then why hasn't someone patented a box call and specified their exact dimensions in the patent to keep others from making? Length is the only thing I can really see comparable in the two calls in question. My strumpet looks like a trumpet. The tube call is a tube unless I am missing something. Thanks....

It's not my job to do all the work for those that disagree...and I don't mean that to be disrespectful to anyone. Corn Bread can be contacted and can explain far better than I, what his patent encompasses. I do know, from many heated discussions w/ him, when he received that patent, that it covers several areas that even the call that AJ made for me, were at issue. That discussion is over and the hatchet is buried.

My concerns are for those that either know and don't care (because CB is not building calls) or don't know and should be aware of possible issues w/ a patent that is still in place, even though calls aren't being produced, by Bread. I stand on the fact, that Breads call is a tube call.....and the name for it, came from a term used for, Harlot. CB the was very proud of that name since " the harlot" was responsible for the weakening of many a man.....or in this case many a, gobbler.

Let's call a spade a spade. If it had not been Chuck Anderson that posted this tube call nothing would have been said by anybody. Some of you guys have a bee up your bonnet over Chuck and it is time to either resolve your problem with him or stop your harrassment on this public forum. I have looked and I cannot find a copy of the Cornbread patent but would love to read it. As far as the external appearance the tube call posted by Chuck and the strumpet look nothing alike. Anybody with any type vision at all can see that. As far as the technicalities about length, bore diameter, etc. I guess would be spelled out in the patent. If you are going to make claims then support with documentation what is being infringed upon. Enough is enough.

Question - if some guy wants to name his junk strumpet, would there be a patent infringement?

Makes no sense.....at all!   So I don't like Chuck, but I warn him he may have a problem, with a patent infringement. I must really, be stupid. A smart hater would just sit back and watch the train wreck and never say a word!

OK......have at it Chuck....make a bunch of those long tube calls......just forget I ever brought it up!
