Title: First wingbones and a question
Post by: ahornberger22 on June 18, 2013, 06:30:06 PM: Well this was my first shot at any wingbones. I made an identical set, one for me and one for my dad, out of a gobbler I shot this spring. My question is, what is the best thing to use to write on them or decorate them? And what should I use as a finish over the writing? I used a fine tipped sharpie with no finish, but I did put clear nail polish over the wrapping to harden it up. Thanks for looking!

Post by: callmakerman on June 18, 2013, 09:01:50 PM: Micron #5 in black will work or maybe a G2 gel pen then a shot of Deft should do it. Very nice job on the bones.

Post by: professorwingbone on June 19, 2013, 02:08:47 PM: I use a gel ink pen and finish with ProKote. You will need a turning machine to finish with the PK, however. I found that if I use a sharpie or ink pen, if I finished over it with a spray lacquer, I had to use a satin finish first. The glossy finish would cause the ink to run. You can finish over the satin with glossy.

Post by: M Sharpe on June 20, 2013, 12:23:57 PM: I use archival Indian ink with pro-kote over it. Let it dry for a few days or you chance smearing it.
