Title: NY Black Bear
Post by: letinmfly on August 30, 2009, 09:27:00 AM: This bear was taken on my property back in 2006 by my uncle, on left. I had seen the bear the day before but couldn't a shot at him right after I shot my buck. The next morning just before 8am my uincle shot him.
The bear was 4 years old and weighed 300lbs.

Nice bear! Is bear hunting a big deal in NY? Trying to gauge how hardcore people are hunting them.

Mike I wouldn't say bear hunting in NY is big but parts of NY have alot of them. This week has been a busy week for sighting bears for me. I've seen 4 different bears this week and probly 10 total for the month.

It's a Sako chambered in .280. Sweet gun, I'm trying to acquire it. ;D

He also owns two Husqvarna's(sp?) one is a full length stock in .243 and the other is chambered in .25-06 with standard stock. Those are on my hit list as well. ;)

I own three older Sakos. They are mighty fine rifles. I also have a couple HVA Carl Gustafs (which I think were made by Husqvarna). All these rifles are left-handed bolt. Nothing like a quality rifle or turkey call.

last october it was really windy one day so I decided to stalk through a cornfield. about half way through I was waiting for a gust of wind so i could move. I hear this weird noise and then crashing through the stalks. i look there is a bear in my row and a bear in the row behind me running away from me. they must have walked up on me and i starteld them. i got out of that corn field a lot quicker then it took to get in.

Lou, we've got black bears, poisonous snakes, alligators, some big toothie wild hogs, ticks, deer flies, and skeeters the size of young turkeys. Come on down and I'll hook you up *bannana* *bannana*

And I'm thinking of coming down and going hunting there in a couple of years... You guys/gals is CRAZY!!!!

Post by: Mzlhunter on September 12, 2009, 07:11:04 PM: A couple years back I was hiking in to a remote native brookie stream and walked up on a big bear. It stood it's ground and I nervously eased my way in another direction. It made fishing interesting for the rest of the day.
