Title: First longbox from Brian Watts
Post by: jmck on May 25, 2013, 03:36:44 PM
Every now and then, a turner gets out of his box, and tries sometthing new. Here is Osager Brian Watts first shot at a longbox.
Brian set plans for this build in Nashville, when He picked up the poplar wood from Billy and Stover Perryman. The wood is almost solid black on one side and rolls into some neat color on the other. Brian tried quite a few different lids during the build and it seemed it just wanted this bloodwood lid. He picked out Yellowheart for inlays to make it pop. The inlays really set the call off.
The call starts off high in the front with great kee kees, slides into good breaks on both sides and rolls into some plum nasty rasp in the rear. Shes got a gobble in her to beat the band too.
Brian, ya took your time and I liked the way you wanted to do all the work yourself. She turned out really great and she's a a hunter for sure. I hope it brings ya many good memories in the turkey woods my friend.
Ya did a FINE job on this call-not only does she look great, shes a singer also  !!!

Brian, you did a great job on that one and if it sounds anywhere near as good as your other calls then it is a top shelf turkey killer.

Jeff sent me a text sound file of the call today and I was over blown away by the sounds that I had heard.  I thought that Jeff was playing a joke on me by sending me a sound file of one of his competition calls.  Man, this call absolutely has it all from a very high front end to a quick break with a nasty raspy tail end.  My kind of call all the way around.  Brian, you not only did that wood very proud, but I think you have a fantastic mentor and friend in Mr. McKamey.
