Today I went to the foothills to do some work. When I came around the corner I had to stop to let a hen with 11 poults cross the road. Once she went across I pulled up there to get a better look and she started strutting to protect her poults from the bad car man. After I got done I went back by there and there was 3 hens all with poults. It's another good hatch for us CA hunters.

I had found a hen, on one of our fiber easements, sitting on 11 eggs a few weeks ago. Checked on her a couple days ago and to my dismay, she had been killed and the eggs all busted and eaten as well. When I had found her, I started to run her off and take the eggs and incubate them. I figured this was against the law and decided to leave them and let nature take it's course. It did!! If I'd of taken them, there would be a lots more of them alive today. I wish I had of taken them now....

The landowner where I hunted today in West Virginia saw a hen with six poults this past week.

Can not say what our hatch is like yet, the hay fields are to tall to see any turkey right not. I hope for a good hatch, but I am worried about all the rain we have been getting the past 3 to 4 weeks. We have been getting a lot of cold rain. Like I said can't tell for sure right now. Will know more when farmers start cutting hay. Plus I am working double shift on eve-nights and I am not out and about during the day. Glad to see the pic of the poults and hen. *up*
