Title: Kicked off a great season in Kentucky !

I started my season in KY this year again and shared some great times with great friends . I took along my good friend Ed Patton from NY and we had a blast chasing birds . We both tagged nice Toms in the first few days despite some difficulties along the way . Ed shot his bird on opening day at high noon due to persistance and confidence in his spot . He used two boxcalls I made for him out of poplar . Both in my stepside design . The shortbox is topped with sugar maple from Maryland and the longbox has a maple lid and did most of the work on this gobbler . Ed's gobbler weighed in at 22 lbs and sported an 10 '' beard and 1'' spurs . I tagged my first tom on the third day of our hunt after putting on a very long maneuver to get ahead of two strutters locked up with hens. While I was soft calling to the toms, a hen came in yelping from 100 yds away and stood 10 feet from me . I let her take over the calling and my gobbler strutted into view at 30 yds and took a face full of #5 Hevi's . I used a wormy butternut fat bottom girl along with a Tom-2-Timer glass and padauk call from my good buddy Gregg Guthridge . The striker is made from ipe and was a gift from another great friend from WV , Scott Martin , son of Peck Martin.  My bird had a 10.5'' beard 1'' spurs and weighed in at 23.5 lbs. Not a bad start to what turned into a great season , so far!

Way to go  *up* sounds like you guys had a great time. It's always a little more special when you have to throw in a little woodsman ship to out fox the turkeys instead of just having them come straight in. Great pics and awesome looking calls. *cheers*
