Been too busy since getting back I haven't had time to post. Rickey, Steve, and I got to TX late on a Monday afternoon and it was 94 deg. The next morning it was 34 deg and 40 mph winds. Maybe the toughest day of turkey hunting I have experienced. We struck out. The next morning I was snuggled up under some roost trees and Rickey was on the other side thinking we had it sewed up. The turkey flew directly over me into a river bed. There was one long beard, about 6 or 8 jakes and about that many hens. They would not come my way. I made three moves and belly crawled up on the river bank and shot the long beard at just over my effective range. He went down hard. I ran over and he got up just as I was getting to him and made it to the brush on the river side. I flushed him out and shot him flying off and apparently broke his leg >!! I was making my way down the river bed in the direction he flew when Rickey came over to see how many I had killed. It took about 45 minutes of beating the brush along the river bed before Rick nearly stepped on him and we saw where he went but he got out of gun range in a hurry hopping and flying low. After a few more minutes of searching, I saw him and put and end to his days. Pretty good Rio before I shot him up. Right at 18 lbs, 9" beard and 1-1/4" spurs.

If you don't see any pics of my OK Rios it's because I didn't shoot any. *cry* *cry*

Poor Rickey has been on two trips with me now and both times he has had to help me search for a gobbler that got up after I shot him. I am in the market for a 10 gauge.

It was good meeting and hunting with you. Congrats on that Texas Rio. It was well earned in that weather.

That was a good bird. I guess he looks pretty good considering he had been run a half mile and shot three times. *lol*
I sure am glad you did not show me that picture of the rattler while we were hunting. I would never have looked up again.

looks like a non-poisonous rat snake to me. Do you like rats better than snakes? ??? Glad you got the turkey.
