It was another great morning in the turkey woods..after somewhat of a trying start. We located some gobbling birds at first light and set up on them. They were henned up and after battling with the hen for a while, she led the gobblers away from us. Round two, we located another gobbler and made a long circuitous route to get into a good calling position where we knew he liked to go. By the time we go into position, another hunter had moved in between us and the gobbler. By then we had learned my brother had gotten a nice gobbler, so we had a cup of coffee with him and admired his bird. Heading back to the woods, we soon located some more gobblers.
I set up 30 yards to Aaron's left, and he called with the long box. I was in a great position to watch the show unfold. Before I even had a chance to do any calling, I saw red heads bobbing and two Jakes passed by Aaron, no more than ten feet away. I heard a twig snap and spotted a nice gobbler coming directly at me. I got prepared to shoot and the gobbler veered back towards Aaron.. I realized it was going to pass right it front of him, so I held off. I was beginning to wonder if he was going to shoot...the bird stepped up on a log and then jumped off...when he landed I saw Aaron make his move and the 20 gauge double spoke. He hit the ground hard, and I was thrilled...just like his first gobbler...and this gobbler had the biggest head I've seen for a while..since the first one he got...what a monster! 22lbs, 1" & 1 1/8ths spurs, 10" beard
