I got a chance to hunt a good bird right down the road from me this morning. I sat until I needed to leave without seeing a thing. Before I left I drove to the other end of the farm to check a spot the owner saw a different bird. When I looked across the fence to another guy's property I saw a hen then saw the gobbler. I pulled down got my gear and 1 decoy then went back to set up. When I called he gobbled then started to strut. He strutted for his girlfriend for a good 30 minutes or more. I would answer back when she called then I looked to see her coming down the fence row on the wrong side . I had my camera running so I laid down and the hen came through the fence at 5 yards and walked within 4 yards of me to check the decoy.
She decided everything was cool and I could see the gobbler coming the same way so I got ready to shoot laying down at 5 yards. But then no bird. I looked and he had doubled back and was standing on my property but was going to go with the hen. I got to my knees put the dot on his head then dropped the hammer. When the smoke cleared he was flopping. What I didn't realize was he was 40 yards away a long shot with my muzzle loader.
I have shot at three good toms since Thursday and killed two so I am happy happy. 9 1/2" beard and 1" spurs another beautiful Tennessee gobbler.
