Title: Acid stained maple pair
Post by: charlieparrish on October 18, 2009, 08:00:06 PM: This is part a set that I am working on...when finished it will consist of the two boxes pictured: a Cost style short box , a Turpin style box and (not pictured) a Turpin style with the handle, and a matching chalk box along with a matching scratch box. at the rate I'm going it may be a while before I get finished .....those are worm holes in the turpin lid...they don't look that bad in person :-[

I'm new to the 'game' and would like to have some kinda idea. I think I know what you're talking about because I think I did some cedar like that a while back. It actually turned almost as dark as the inside of a pocketbook:)

No secret about it...it is dilute nitric acid with metal shavings added,,,,then heated

I learn something every day. I didn't know that you could do an acid stain on maple. I knew it could be done on oak, but have never seen it done on maple....I like it.
Staining curly maple is very difficult and still maintain the figure. But that staining looks like it did that well.
