Title: Eastern sports and outdoor update
Post by: boxcaller on January 22, 2013, 06:53:44 PM
for those of you that are not following the boycott,...go to facebook and check out the "Boycott the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show"....all celebrities have pulled out, all major sponsors and manufacturers,..over 200 exhibitors so far have backed out to take a stand against the british company Reed Exhibitions......    this was my statement made today.    Pat

For the last 30 plus years straight I have found myself in Harrisburg PA the first week of Feb. at the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show (along with hundreds of thousands of others.) Our loyalty to that show has been unwaivering unfortunatley that loyalty has not been returned by the promoters therefore Pat Strawser Custom Calls (team hunter) and Real Scent Whitetail Lures will NOT be attending this years show. This will be a huge financial loss for companies big and small,..our money is gone and will not be returned,..but i don't look at it as losing money, I look at it as an investment into our kids future. Suppliers, Manufacturers, Retailers and consumers will all have to band together to help each other with their sacrifices. Take notice of who joined the boycott and "like" their pages, buy their products, visit their stores, support them. The ridiculous hypocricy of the "blame it on the gun" attitude has to stop. Do it for our heritage, our morals, our past and present military,...do it for our kids. This may be our one big chance to have the greatest impact. STAND AND FIGHT!!

Some of you guys should contact the Geogia Wildlife Federation and see if its to late to be a vendor at the Perry Fishing and Turkeyrama on some of those same dates in Feb. We would love to have more vendors.

Yes it is. I think its a great turkey show to. Several big name guys come to that show before hitting Nashville. They have plenty of room to expand.

I just saw all the mess going on with the Sportshow today.... What a mess... They really found a way to ruin a good thing... I'm surprised at all the "big names" that pulled out and just the number of vendors in general that are boycotting the show, but I applaud them, and you, for taking a stand  *up* I know I won't be there this year!

First of all a big Thank You to Pat and everyone else who has pulled out of the Harrisburg show!  I know that most if not all the celebrity hunters have pulled out as well.  I think they could make an even bigger impact by showing up at the entrances to the show and put on a demonstration asking the uninformed public not to attend and patronize the show or it's vendors.
I have also read on other forums that there is an attorney who is putting together a class action law suit against Reed for the refund of all show vendors who are pulling out free of charge.  Realizing that you must have an FFL to sell the firearms in question many vendors still planned on selling or even simply displaying "accessories".
If you planned on selling any "accessories" for the weapons in question(which I am sure ALL vendors who pulled out were) you would in this class action lawsuit be getting your fees paid back!
I have personally called manufacturers of items that I carry in my shop and although most are archery related, I have informed them that if they still set up at the Harrisburg show that I will no longer stock their products.  One stabilizer manufacturer in particular is upset with me as we have had a good friendship in the past which may be in jeopardy because of his comments pertaining to this issue.
His first comments were that this had nothing to do with him as he was "Archery"...  I then explained to him that the vast majority of archers also owned and used firearms.  He was reconsidering his stance during our conversation but to date has not been added to the list that have pulled out.

Hats off to all vendors that opted to pull out of this event, and will proudly support them with the continued purchase of there products. But with that said, will there actually be enough pull out when there is like 1200 total vendors? Will there be any of the boating, fishing and RV guys pull out? I'm thinking that if at least half of the vendors need to not show up in order to make an impact big enough to ripple the water. The other thing that now needs to happen is the attendance needs to be waaay down. Like someone else said, we all need to contact our local newspapers and media to let people know the direction this is going.

Of 1200 planned exhibitors, 233 have already pulled out.  That is almost 20% That is a statement right there.  I expect more to pull out.  Two guys that I work with that go every year are not going now.

It would really be key if the NATIONAL SPORT SHOOTING FEDERATION would pull out, but seems its REED ENTERTAINMENT that runs their SHOT SHOW, I guess that they have worked a deal, that if NSSF stays in Harrisburg show, the assult ban wont be in effect for the SHOT show. perhaps people should boycott the ones that FAIL to boycott . BASS Pro Shops is another one I havent heard about, anyone hear of them?? My fear, when one contributor steps out, another contributor thats more greedy will just fill their ranks, and I ask you not to support them either. Kudos to all that stay the course on this, be the ones that make the difference.

I feel bad for the vendors but this is the right thing to do and stand up for our rights.  It took a lot of leadership courage by the vendors and we should support as many as we can , they sent a clear statement on behalf of all good honest sportsman

Bass Pro has been out since last summer they cancelled a lot of shows this past year.
They weren't named on the list because they were out before the ruckus started.
