Title: elephant call

I made this call from a pre-ban elephant tusk.  As sort of a tribute to the elephant, I carved and scrimshawed elephants on the barrel. There is a different scene on the other side.  A little unconventional, but fun to do something other than ducks.

Fantastic work as always from you.  I am a huge fan of your scrimshanding!!!  Gosh I wish I could make my scrim look that nice.  Might have to pick your ear sometime.  Great job.----Jason

Thanks for the comments.  I was really fortunate to have a piece of ivory that big to work with.  Man was I nervous when I drilled it and turned it. And I pieced together the stopper out of two pieces, with a little ebony band in between, because I didn't have a piece of ivory long enough for a one piece stopper. Doubt I'll ever make another solid ivory call.  So, it was a treat, but I'm glad it's over.

Dude, that is SWEET! Great job. I can't imagine the tension one must experience when working on ivory, especially that detailed. Scrimshaw work is picture perfect. Considering this whole masterpiece, you must have and extremely steady hand. Congrats.

I like the fleur d'lis on the sides, nice compliment to the elephants.  Carving is excellent as well.  Wonderful piece of artwork!!!!!!!

You know you'll do another ivory call someday.
