Was in the shop EARLY this morn and the text went off on my phone really early. Opened it and it was ole Bob with a dandy fall bird. Seems he took half the day to hunt and the other half to go vote he said. Dont know alot of the details but he did tell me a rather HALLARIOUS story about what all happened AFTER the gun went off. Seems the old man still has a little speed in the legs of his ;D !!!!
With Bobs humor, we need to demand just exactlly how this bird ended up with ABSOULTELY NO tail feathers to show off ........ ???

OK , I will spare you the fun I had for two days of chasing this flock and all the wonderful fall turkey sights and sounds that were the experience. Howver, this lone hen was really pleading up a storm this morning with lots of kee-kees and yelps. But she would not cross the ravine I was on and after about an hour flow off. I made a move or two and she flew to my side and began kee-keeing again. I responded and she was in sight, coming ever closer. At about 35 or 40 yards there she was and I had my bead on her. One problem was that the bead covered her so I aimed a little bit lower and took the shot. I couldn't believe it when she flew up and landed behind a down tree. I thought I missed and was kicking myself. I decided to see if I hit her where I saw her land and the chase was on. She took off and this 59.5 year old man (not a spring chicken any more and those Jack LaLane videos aint helping me either) was in persuit. Over dead trees and through the woods she went and I was right on her, she pinned herself under a log and as I reached to get her she took off but I had a hold of her tail, only for a second cause the next thing I knew, I had the whole tail in my hand and the turkey was off again. I caught up to her in a ravine and that is my tale, I mean tail of the hunt. What a work out and I was done at 0705 this morning and I am still out of breath. Ok Jeff, its your turn. I know the shots are coming and that I have been on your target list and know you have the goods on me.

I just have this IMAGE in my mind Bob...of the look on yourt face when she flushed. And, even more vivid....the sight of you panting heavily chasinf and tripping all over everything trying to catch up to her. What I would have given to have geen there behing my video camera ---I would make ya a MOVIE STAR friend ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO

The way you described it, sounds like you were right there. If you filmed it, we would have won on America's Funniest Home Video. It's funny recalling the chase, but at the time all I wanted was that turkey not go any further. She was the real actor today. The pleading kee-Kees and kee-kee runs were worth the show. Now its Advil time for this old sprinter! I sure could have used Marlins turkey dogs cause my dogs are sore.... Hehe

Man what a hunt...glad to hear ya still had something in those legs.....being of the same age...I can relate! :o Who knew that turkeys shed their tails like blue tail lizards!! :o :o Been interesting to see if would have grown back tho.. :D Ok, now the advil, try some Motrin...and ICE UP THOSE KNEES!

guys....Bob called this morning from the SPORTS Medicine center near him. Seems that he wasnt able to go to work today due to being "STOVE" UP AS WE CALL IT DOWN HERE.
Dont worry Bob,,,,a few cortizone shots and some codine tablets, and you will be up and going again.
The pain will only last a few days....and also----man do those cortizone shots hurt bad dude, AND those needles they use to get all the way down to the center of the knee joint----whew--it is PAINFUL. Just take a deep breath and hold it man..... ROTFLMBO

On a special note about the photo. The hat I am wearing belong to one of my best friends and fellow turkey hunter (Ron) who died of cancer 5 years ago on November 2nd. The spur necklace has special meaning to me as well. We would share one spur with each other when we took gobblers, so some of those spurs are from birds he had taken. I promised to wear the necklace with each hunt and this year, in my prayers, I told him if I got a fall turkey, I would wear his favorite hat that he bought on a trip to Edgefield, SC (NWTF Headquarters). So this hunt held a special place in my heart and many fond memories of a great friend and an outstanding turkey hunter and a member of the PANWTF Turkey Hunter Hall of Fame. He was inducted the year after he passed away. Missed but never forgotten.

Bob, Thank you so much for sharing your story of your hunting buddy Ron and thanks for the blessing with the lucky longbeard of Ron's *up* I enjoyed your hunting story and congratulations on filling your tag but I think i would have told everyone that the hen lost her tail feathers clinging to a branch during hurricane Sandy ;D ;D ;D ;D *lol*

Great story about your friend Ron...You did him A great honor...Im sure he was looking down on you during the hunt...He probably got A big laugh watching you chase that turkey too!...Thanks for sharing that man.
