GIGGING. I do a good bit of gigging in the summer and come fall, I'll break out the rods.

I've never had the occasion to try gigging, it sounds like a hoot.  Congrats on the makings of a fine fish fry...

Used to gig flounder and blue crab down at Dauphin Island (South of Mobile, AL) and one night we (my brother in law and I) were out in about waist deep water about 200 yards off shore. We had head lamps on and saw a fin above the water. Looked around and we were surrounded by a bunch of small (2-5 ft.) sharks. Seems the blood had attracted them. We each had a #3 wash tub tied to our belts with a chord. We each out of instinct or fear not sure which cut the chords and took off for shore. Probably set a men on water record for 200 yards without a motor! We literally walked on water. Needless to say we went in a jon boat from then on. We were so shook up it was back to Mobile for a shower and a clean set of drawers.

Dauphin Isl. is a nice place. The fishery down there is excellent. I was there almost two years ago where the public fishing pier is. I went back not too long ago and there was a sandbar there..?

It was always one of my favorite spots. The sand bars have a tendency to change in location and size. I have been down there and just over the main bridge on the left you cold walk in water and sometimes just sand for nearly a half mile. Love it there, great memories.
