From the beginning when I got into turkey calls, I always heard that walnut over poplar was an old favorite for many call makers. This is my first Shorty I've tried in this combo. Also, tried a new thing with the lid. Got the idea from one of Melvin Newman's boxes I saw in the 2nd Mickel book. I'm really pleased in the way it turned out.  This caller is going to Brian Aliff for a little trade. Another combo 1st from Gary, I keep telling my wife I'm special  *lol*. Nice lookin box buddy can't wait to get my hands on it. I take it's, the first time you tried those recess grooves in the lid. Does it have a affect on the sound??

Brian, I think those grooves have somewhat of the same effect as checks.   Especally, with the rollover.
