So how many people watched it? I've luckily been able to sneak away and watch most of it and it looks freaking awesome! Kevin Costner did a fantastic job!! and it seems to be pretty darn accurate!!!
History Channel has really became addictive for me!

I finished watching it last night. Good show just hated all the commericals. Thankfully I had it on my DVR I just fastwarded past them commericals.

I thought it got kinda long and boring, the way all of Costner's movies get. Too many people to keep up with.

Taped it and watched the next day, No comercials. Hard to keep the characters straight. Liked to watch and see the progression of firearms they were using to wack each other as the movie moved through time.

My take of it was that Uncle Jim Vance on the hatfield side was a bitter and disturbed person who basically started the feud when he killed Randal McCoy's brother at his cabin (moonshine still). Randall McCoy was just as bitter and kept the McCoy side full of hate.
In my opinion Anse Hatfield tried to be the peacemaker but I thought it was wrong that he deserted his army during the war, overall I liked his character and think KC did a good job portraying him.
That was a difficult time in our American history and I enjoyed the movie but agree with others that there were way too many commercials. I am sure Tug valley and the Mingo county area will get some tourism because of this movie...

I liked it...A little too much cussing for my taste,but it was still good.

I enjoyed it, but came away w/ the feeling that Kostner was attempting to make Randell McCoy a christian zealot who went crazy because God let him down. What struck me in the end was that Anse was baptised which makes me think he really did respect Randell but let his anger get the best of him.

I found the series to be well written and acted, and enjoyed it very much.
I do know that history is unsure of the specific cause of the feud between the two families; there are several theories about what started the fight, and each of the more popular theories were touched upon. The civil war, the killing of the McCoy afterward, the romance between Randell and Anse's children, the property dispute over the livestock are the more popular theories and the movie included them all.
Dialogue and dialect were spot on, its a great period piece for sure. Personally not a big Costner fan, but I did enjoy watching his portrayal of the Hatfield character.
Well done overall. Best part is the success of this series should spawn many more similar series in the future. *dance*

That is seriously "down home" for me. Devil Anse's great grandson (Cap Hatfield's grandson) lived just down the street until his passing couple years ago. He wrote several books on the feud and had a lot of the old historical documents and such. I think he even had some of their old firearms but I personally never saw them. He was one of Dad's big buds. It is a shame that some much of the history like the old homeplaces have been allowed to just rot away. I went by the Hatfield cemetery the day after the last episode and there was a bunch of folks gathered around the little historical sign taking pictures. The big marble statue is so grown up in weeds and such ya can't see it anymore. And yes, Steve, I mite have been one of them gun toters hidden up in the rocks. I think you got to see my elbow or gun barrel or something. *peep* Overall, I enjoyed the series but not sure how much "liberty" they took with the historical accuracy of things. This was tough country back then, not to different than many frontier areas, so folks applied the law as they saw fit. I'll bet Witter was all tore up with all them BIG JUGS of popcorn being shown. I enjoyed the story. Will likely buy the dvd in July. Love the History channel. My wife even watched it and of course shed a few tears. Old Anse was hard on the turkey. *up*

The show was well done and I thought that the actors did a great job portraying their respected charcter.The best one for me was Tom Beringer(sp?) playing Jim Vance I never rellized it was him until after the 2nd episode

I found it interesting wonder how much of the story is true facts years have gone by a lot has changed threats/clothes shelter guns ..i see in all the years its still alcohol money and you guess the last one

I watched it on my DVR so I could fast ward past all the commericals. I really like the movie. I am going to watch a few more times. The best way to really enjoy a movie lke that is to study the people in the movie before you watch it. From my research of Hatfields and McCoy's they cover most all the things that keep the feud going. But all in all I thing that Kevin Costner (William Anderson "Devil Anse" Hatfield), Bill Patton (Randolph "Ole Ran'l" McCoy.McCoy) both played there parts really well. Plus Tom Berenger did a great job playing the role of Jim Vance. I would also like to mention that Matt Bar did well playing the part of Johnse Hatfield the son of William Anderson "Devil Anse" Hatfield.

That is so cool firedup. My friend and neighbor is the great grandson of Ellison. He hasn't gotten to see the show yet, he works nights, but I can't wait to hear his take on it. We have been talking about coming down to one of the reunions sometime, probably not this year but maybe next. If we can work it out I'll keep in touch and maybe we could meet . You wouldn't believe, well , I guess maybe you would, some of the stories he tells of growing up in Mingo. *wha* *wha*

The show was awesome..Costner did an excellent job as well as Tom Berenger...If you want to read the history of the Hatfields and McCoys look at West Va. and Kentucky archives...I love history especially Civil War era and find it intriguing...

I was the same way. I was reading Tom was in it and I was look... who the heck was he... then I realized who it was...
I got to watch the Hatfield and McCoy History channel regular show last night too. They had a ton of opinions and they are not even sure that Anse and Randolph worked together in the Civil War. Did not mention Anse deserting either. Also said Anse killed Harmon McCoy not Vance, but I think there are a lot of he said she said that goes along with this fued!

Watched it all, I liked it. Growing up in WV I read alot about H.& M. fude. Always liked reading about it.
