How were the numbers in you state? They were down quite a bit here in West Virginia. My two came from Marion county.
West Virginia Hunters Harvest 8,332 Spring Turkeys
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Preliminary harvest figures for the 2012 spring gobbler season are in and West Virginia hunters checked in 8,332 bearded turkeys, according to Frank Jezioro, director of the Division of Natural Resources. This year’s harvest is a 10 percent decline from the 2011 harvest and a 15 percent decline from the previous five-year average.
Biologists have long recognized that the brood counts two years prior are fairly accurate predictors of harvest since most of the kill is composed of two-year old birds. Brood production in 2010 was 28 percent lower than 2009; therefore, the 2012 spring harvest was lower because fewer birds were available. Brood production was higher in 2011 but still below the long-term average.
“Because future harvests are dependent on brood production and survival, let’s hope for a dry June and a more normal spring in 2013, if there is such a thing,” said Jezioro.
The 2012 spring kill is the lowest since 1989, when 7,245 birds were harvested by hunters. While all the other districts saw a decline in harvest, hunters in District 1 (northern counties) registered a 7 percent increase over last year. The southern districts saw the greatest reduction in harvest, with Districts 5 and 4 declining by 25 and 21 percent, respectively.
The top counties were Mason with a kill of 343, Preston (330), Harrison (282), Wood (237) and Greenbrier (235). Rounding out the top 10 counties were Jackson (229), Marshall (227), Upshur (224), Monongalia (222) and Kanawha (213).

Here in Ohio we tagged 17,647 birds during our spring season for 2012 . That's a 3% decrease from last year and we have been seeing this trend for the last few years . We peaked at over 23,000 about ten years ago and for the last 5 years the numbers have went down . In my opinion , the hunter numbers are up but the kill is down . I think it is due to a decrease in bird population in alot of areas .

There was a total of 8922 bearded turkeys taken during the regular spring season and youth seasons combined in Arkansas. We peaked about 7 years ago with a harvest over 20,000 birds and have been on a steady decline ever since. Our Game & Fish commission have already set the season dates for spring 2013 and they moved it back a week and shortened it by a week. They are doing all they can to reduce the harvest total as much as possible. I am just thankful there are excellent states to hunt all around us.

Yep here in CA we don't know how many turkey were killed because nobody knows. We are on the honor system. Which means we don't have turkey tags, and we are supposed to kill 3 bearded turkeys per spring. I wish they would go to a tag system and figure out how many turkeys are killed each year.

MO was up big time!!! Hopefully this season our hatch will be another great one and we'll have another spectacular season *up*

I see by the WV numbers the co.'s I hunt are all down. Not surprized. If things go the way they always do I figure the DNR will open a fall season in them now. Can't figure our DNR out for doing things the way they do. Haven't seen any polts yet, but farmers having trouble getting hay cut, alot of rain here from late April to June. Could be a tough year on them again.

yeah tags would be good and keep some Unscrupulous hunters honest..... would protect our resources
