getting many reports of hens with poults in ohio over the last two weeks. some were big enough to have hatched about the first of may. this is unheard of in ohio. hope this warm dry spring gives us a hatch to remember. can't wait till oct 13th.

I've heard of several buches being seen here in WV also. I've yet to see any but I've not be out much since seasons been over. I also hope it's a hatch to remember. Come on fall!! *dance*

Marlin, I started seeing poults two weeks ago in Highland county. This past saturday Iwent to my farms in Athens county and saw three hens with close to a dozen followers with each one. Looks like a good start for next spring. Should be alot of scent on the ground this fall. I already made some brush blinds for bowhunting in October.

I saw a hen with 7 poults around the last week in March , yes March.I had to do a double take on that one myself.Would never have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.The earliest I have ever seen them here in Ky by at least 30-45 days. :o

Here in southern WV we have had alot of rain. It might be a tough on the hatch here ????. The farmers is having trouble getting hay cut due to all the rain. Might start seeing some once the hay gets cut. I have not seen any yet. I did see my first fawn of the year last night while spraying weeds around the root celler. So far no polts.

We were seeing poults in NC by the end of March. The earliest I can ever remember.

X2 ROTFLMBO His state is having its first fall season, he needs to stay in TN. Maybe Tim can hunt Tn with Jeff and save gas money rather than driving to Ohio..hehehe.

Been planting my crops for next years season and I also have been seeing alot of polts from new ones all the way up to grouse sized ones.
The 3 Grey phase hens again have not dropped any colored poults---unless they add color later.
And Smith, yep we have our first fall season this year, and I have a appoitment with one of those color phase hens. We have watched one that I have video of for 5 or 6 years if I remember right. Hope lady luck shines on me , and all the other FALL hunters !!!

Had a buddy to call me yesterday. He had just had two hens and sixteen poults cross the road in front of him. He said they were about 1/3 grown, so I figured they couldn't be much more than a month old.

Around the second week of June while trout fishing, I saw a hen with 11 poults about 12'' tall cross a forest service road. The amazing thing was these birds are living above 3500 feet in elevation and they've survived this long. The mild winter and dryish spring has no doubt been helpful on game birds. I have also seen more grouse this year than other years in the past.

was re reading this post and went back and found one of the clips I have from the grey hens that are on my buddys farm. This is just a small portion of about 20 minutes I filmed of one of them from 2010. This is the hen that I have years of footage from....and hopefully, or paths cross this year in my countys first ever fall season .
