I know turkey season is still going on in parts of the country, but it is over down South. My buddy and I are now planning an early season rifle hunt for elk in south central Colorado that starts October 1. We have applied for our permits and waiting to see if we draw the limited tags. We hope to hunt in the Creede area. We have been there several times and it is some of the most beautiful country I have ever seen. We plan to rent a mountain cabin for a week and take our wives.
Anyone else planning an elk hunt this fall?

Rickey , that sounds like alot of fun . I am planning a DIY archery hunt in Colorado next year . It will be a pack-in trip with horses . I hope to catch them in full bugle ! Good luck this fall !

My buddy and I just found out we did not draw the elk tags we had applied for. We now have 18 preference points for elk in Colorado. I had already pulled a couple 300 Magnums out of the gun safe. Oh well, maybe next year.
