South Carolina might be shown in the low risk area, but you can put a big mark over my house.   I had it for 9 months back in 2002-2003 before a MD finally figured it out.   I never got the classic rash so most of the Doc's didn't think that it could be Lyme.   Most miserable time of my life,  I thought I was dead for sure.

I had Lyme disease in 1988 and it took 8 months to find out.

Many cases of Lyme disease are mis-diagnosed.  My nephew and a friend's son ended up in the hospital.  It should never have gone on so long.  I removed a bonafied deer tick from my hunting buddy's back yesterday.  I told him the site was not pretty, and he should get medical help.  He is not a good listener.  I have taken the cure twice.
