Title: Opening Day

Well Opening Day is finally here in NC...I was up early working this morning and hit the woods around 2 this afternoon...the day warmed up quick as the mercury reached around 78...the wind picked up and I heard nothing...I re located to an area I had seen alot of scratching and set up my decoys...Never heard a peep until 615!!!...I had a hen come up the ridge and walk by me at 10 yards!!!  she went straight to my 2 hen decoys and clucked and purred and yelped...she was having a big time...I called to her softly and we carried on a conversation for a little while...She turned and started walking straight to me...she came in the woods and this time she was 5 yards away!!!! I was scared to blink...just then I heard something in the leaves coming from the way she had...I slowly looked to my left..2 Gobblers coming up the ridge...by this time the hen was 20 yards away and the Gobblers were closing the distance...I had to swing slowly to the left...halfway there my sling gets caught on my leg...I am freaking out...these birds are CLOSE!!!!  both birds walked behind a tree and I slipped my sling over my leg....Now the one bird has passed the tree and is looking my way...he leans his head out from behind that tree and BOOOOOYYYAAAA!!!  Gobbler down...what and intense hunt and I never heard the first gobble...If this sport doesnt teach patience the nothing will...I was just about to give it up when all this went down...What a day in the turkey woods...Thank the Lord!!!  10 inch beard...1 1/8 spurs... 21 lbs
