Arkansas season opened this morning and I went to my farm where I have killed gobblers for a lot of years. It is located about a mile from the White River and is in a remote part of the county. It is perfect turkey habitat. I have been spending a lot of time up there the past couple weeks and have not heard any gobbles the past several days. Well, I did not hear or see a turkey this morning. What alarms me most is that I did not hear a single gunshot this morning in the surrounding area and I can hear a long way from my place. Several of the landowners in the area are turkey hunters and they were out chasing them. Our turkey population has steadily declined to I think about as low as it can get. I am not sure what the fix is but our Game & Fish folks better do something before we have no birds left.

Now that's another fantastic thing this site is super for...the kindness of your fellow man...that is a nice gesture David...BTW how are you making out this season?

It starts tomorrow. I've got several located here behind the house. I think others do too *wha*. In the morning I'm going up on the river where I've not been since last fall. I know there's birds there and plenty of'm. I hope to post a picture or two shortly.

the population will cycle if the habitat is there,.....that happens alot of places every now and then,..we went through it on our farms and now it is better than ever,...it's has nothing to do with the game and fish department,...predators, hatches, habitat and hunters are the only factors that matter.

Head north Rickey. You killed the last gobbler in the county last yr *aah* *aah*

I'll let you know if that statement is a good one today!!!
Rickey I feel for you and hopefully Arkansas will get their act together and figure something out. Was watching some turkey hunting yesterday where they were showing how great of a state Arkansas was for turkey hunting!!!! Plum disappointing though...
Assuming no hens either?
