Title: Poults?

Anyone seeing any Poults yet? Our season hasn't even started yet and for two weeks, we've been seeing poults. It's the earliest I can ever remember seeing them.

This year's early spring has gotten everything going ahead of schedule . Probably going to be some tough hunting this year in areas that already have poults !

 And to think, the turkey biologists say temperature has nothing  to do w/ mating or nesting!?!?!?!??? The amount of daylight, is what triggers all that!  ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO REALLY??

 BIll, I think they have deer and turkeys confused with each other ! I absolutely believe that the breeding season for turkeys is timed by weather . This allows poults to hatch during weather suitable for survival .  It will definately affect those areas that have had unusually early warm weather .

Denny Gulvas told me yesterday, that a buddy called him on Sunday afternoon to tell Denny, he saw a hen w/ 7 poults.....

     That was in western PA......I found a nest w/ 7 eggs in it, last Thursday... :o

     Amount of daylight is a crock.......The warmer weather triggers the mating as much as anything.......Pretty evident by last years very late hatch w/ the cold and rainy weather and this years wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy early hatch.....

     It's going to be a very interesting spring for sure..... *peep*

Yep, we will see for sure but there are several cycles of breeding the older ones first then the next level. Just like deer and that is why we see late fawns too.  Will see in PA on April 28th. Either way it will be good to hunt in the spring and here them gobble!

It was either in Turkey and Turkey hunting or Turkey Call, but a very noted "professional" was asked that question. His reply was, the amount of day light, not weather. Chalk it up to all that global warming............. *stu* *peep* *peep* RkLu RkLu

The brood hen would be the ones already setting imo, then your 2 year old hens are next in line. If there are pleanty of them you guys should still have some good hunting. However if your woods are full of first year Spring Jennies that breed don't know to nest and just dropping a egg anyplace, then never leave the gobbler it could be a hard Spring to hunt.
