Title: Tenn opener
Post by: jmck on April 02, 2012, 10:30:48 AM
Opening day in Tenn found me really eadger to get after 3 longbeards that I had been watching. They were seperated on a ridge that overlooked a plateau of a greenfield that sat above a corn filed. I was overly confidant as I had sat there short of the field two morning and listened to them gobble and gobble --get together, and gobbled in the field all morn. Slipped in there an hour and a half early to make sure I was the first one to sign into the area, and set vigil. It strange, how when ya feel you are in the "cat birds" seat, that those blamed birds humilate you. I still dont know where they went. Anyway, I sat tight and kept nursery school with jakes and hens all morn and afternoon. About 4 --a storm came in fast and drenched me with my video equip , saw another comming so I folded up and headed to cover. I did get footage of one particular jake that owned that field all day. He gobbled up a hen and bred her right in front of me.
I nicknamed him Stoner, cause she sat for him, and he wandered around her showing off, and didnt know what to do with her in that postion.... *lol* *lol* *lol*
I CAN THANK THE THUNDER FOR THIS OPENING DAY MIRACLE,

Surprised to hear you struggled like that day after day...didn't that electrified, barbed wire fencing bring those birds right down the hillside, through some type of cattle chute and right into your lap???
