Got home yesterday from my Mississippi hunt. It stormed hard the last couple days I was there.
It was a tough hunt chasing those pressured public land Mississippi swamp birds. Those are some of the toughest I have seen. If you want to find out what kind of hunter you are or just get humbled give them a try sometime. My son was on spring break from Physical Therapy school and this will be his only hunting opportunity this spring so this hunt was all about him.
We heard birds on the limb 2 mornings out of the 5 we hunted. We heard 5 gobblers total on the hunt but I was able to call 4 of them into gun range. My son killed one, two should have been easily killed, and one I was by myself and had him at 30 yards but did not see him until he putted at me. He had come in and circled me. I could hear him drumming but I was in some blowdowns and did not see him until he putted. He is still running best I could tell. We also saw more of the critters in the second picture than we did the first.
10 1/2 inch beard, 7/8 inch spurs

Ken,
This was our 5th year to hunt south central Mississippi. Things were about 3 weeks ahead of schedule this year. Everything was in full bloom and the pine pollen had already fallen. We did not hear as many birds as we have in the past. I really enjoy hunting those swamps. You can walk far enough to get away from people if you want to. I did not have my camera the morning I straddled a big cottonmouth. That one got my attention.

Congrats
-
Way to go Rickey... but you should have a big warning about the snake pic *peep*
Sounds like a heck of a hunt!!!

man Rickey---that had to be a great time with your son friend....congrats on the time sharing a tree and the woods .
Taking a bird in those conditions much less calling in 4 of the 5 ya heartd=---thats a accomplishment.
As far as NO-SHOULDERS go....hate em----kill emm and watch out for em---straddling a moccossin.....wow :o :o :o---he wouldnt have to bite me-when I saw him, my heart would fail.
Congrats again to you and your son on great times together in the turkey woods friend
