Here's a new trumpet I came up with today. After watching "Woodturning Workshop with Tim Yoder" on PBS yesterday I got an idea for a new trumpet. Tim was making a "Captive Ring Goblet" where he turned a goblet that had a captive ring turned within the stem. I decided to give it a shot and after a few hours of work in the shop here it is. The barrel is made from African Blackwood and has an ivory mouthpiece. It took quite a bit longer than my usual design but it was worth it. Sometimes it's just fun to make something totally different.

That is different.... I like it a lot, very inventive Brian!! *cool*

That is cool! It would be even cooler if you put the Ring at the top of the call and thats what you used to attach the lanyard. Then it served a functional purpose.........
just a thought if that ok :)

It's a great thought and I was thinking about doing just that. I was planning on making two captive rings for the call with one up near the top acting as the lanyard ring. In the end I was worried about a lanyard ring breaking and the call being lost in the woods. I remember a hunt a few springs ago where I was crawling face down through a field for several hundred yards and when I finally got up I had lost my lipstop. It's situations like that where I get nervous about using a wood ring to secure a lanyard. Still a great idea though, that may be my next project.

Brian, you sure didn't waist any time; you dropped off my new gorgeous call and talked of doing it and here it is. Maybe I should own that one, er at least touch it. Congratulations on your new concept. Mike's idea is neat, however I do agree that if you hug somebody, belly crawl or jerky move, you could snap that ring.

That, makes for a conversation piece, for sure! I'm w/ Mike though, it has the possibility of getting hung on something as you move through the woods. Still, darn nice looking addition! *up* *up* *up* *up*
