I just wanted to say congrats to Dave Constantine for his outstanding showing at this years Grand Nationals . Year in and year out , Dave has surprised us with many stunning and beautiful creations for the competitions. Here is a pic of Dave receiving his awards at Nationals 2012 . During the presentation , Dave announced that he is planning to retire from the regular competition , so that other callmakers can move up in the ranks . This was a totally unselfish move by a master of decorative callmaking . Dave also told us that he plans to continue to build calls for the Grand Nationals and allow the NWTF to generate funds from them but without doing it in the regular comps. My hats off to you Dave ! Your accomplishments have pushed this competition to the level that it is at now . Thanks for all the great work you have done on behalf of the NWTF Callmaking Competition . I am proud to call you my friend ! I look forward to seeing what you come up with next year for us !!

bob- thank you so much for the post! you are a super guy, and friend and like so many many other call makers and collectors your words are very humbling to me. you are correct - i have expressed a desire to the staff at nationals to no longer compete for the earl mickel award. eight times is boardering on "crazy". i have suggested a formation of a masters class that would be seperate from the main competition. my hopes are that this would create some movement in the ranks, and allow tentative competitors to jump in. i also thought that if this idea cultivates, it could free up some pretty qualified potential judges. with that said, i am additionally planning on teaching workshops on the call competition floor each year for free. carving, painting, scrimshaw, wood burning, etc. might be of some interest to call makers. the initail conversations with charlie, karen, and earl, have been well received. my hopes are that things will progress. dave

I was fortunate this year to meet Dave. ADMIRED his work for years now, what he does is truely amazing. One heck of a gentleman and I am pleased to add him to the growing list of super fine fellows I have been graced in this sport to meet.
Dave---your work is stellar and we enjoy seeing it every opportunity you allow us to.

I was fortunate enough to meet Dave at breakfast. He asked about the trumpet I had around my neck and wanted to hear it. I saw one around his neck and asked to hear it. I was floored. This gentleman and his trumpet sounded more realistic than any I have heard. It was only then I read the name tag and realized who I was talking to. Very nice and down to earth. A great complement to our great sport. I will be proud owner of one of those turkey filled hunter grade trumpets very soon! Thank you sir for sharing your talent with us.
