Do any of you have experience with dog seizures ?

  I have a 7 yr old female Rottweiler who developed seizures earlier this year . They have been occuring every 2-3 weeks since they started . Now they have seemingly progressed . This week she has had 3 seizures in 2 days . I am very worried about my girl . The after affects are sticking around longer now too . Do any of you have any experience with seizures in dogs ? Any ideas on causes or cures would be very helpful . Especially the cures !!! Thanks .

Is she on any medication?  My parents have a miniature schnauzer and she has a heart condition, and after the vet put her on her meds, she started having seizures.  Also, pay attention to what she is doing when she has one.  My parents dog has hers when she gets really excited.  Hope this helps.

Bob, My chessie has had seizure starting at age 2. I took him to the vet and they started him on 1 grain of phenobarbtol in the morning and1 evening. He's now 8 and is up to 2pills in the morning and 2 in the evening.Since taking his medication he has had few seizures since . Get your dog to vet. They cn get her straighten out. Its a common thing.

She isn't taking any meds right now for anything . We have considered the phenobarbitol treatment . She usually has the seizures when she is sleeping in her crate . I know when it happens because she shakes her crate as she kicks around . Most times it happens around 4 a.m. That is a terrible way to wake up .

what every you decide to do you had better get going treatments right away.  these seizures are doing damage to here every time she has one..

Change dog food to 100 percent meat!!! Magnesium pills Twice daily. The vet will string you along to keep you coming back for more pills and treatments. Remember you are the source of there income!!! May have to consider the worst case scenario, hate to say it but may be the best thing for the dog in the long run... Sorry to here this.  Good luck, Bob!!!

The vet told me if they didnt stop I needed to put my dog on phenobarbitol,but he hasnt had anymore seizures,that was about 6 months ago,knock on wood..

I know from experience that more exercise will greatly limit seisures in your dog. As well as meds mentioned above.

Thanks for all the great help guys !! The vet says she has a blown out knee which is causing a limp . She is 90% through with her RAE title and it looks like it may be a long time before she can complete the last 2 legs . The vet also says she thinks that Dream has a liver problem which caused the knee to weaken and aslo is causing the seizures . We switched her to a gluten-free diet and will follow up with the vet ! Thanks again my friends !!
