a "Baby Doll" house caller
« on: November 01, 2011, 07:33:38 PM »
I was given the opportunity to get a special piece of wood from John Eddleman to build a couple of calls from. Its a piece of Cyprus from a hand hewn beam from a historical house near his home. The house was the site of the movie 'Baby Doll" that was filmed in 1956. The home was owned then by J.C. Burrus. Now Mr Winn has procured the home and is renovating it. The house was known by two names back in the day,  Baby Doll House and the Hollywood Plantation. Thanks for the historical wood John and the oppertunity to make us a call from such a place. Its special to have provinance with the wood when ya build a call.
The cyprus has walnut inlays and the walnut has cyprus inlays in it. The right side is a little lower pitched than the right and they both roll great into some good rasp. Clucks and purrs ---special on this little caller. Gobbles really good also.Pitch is easy to alter on it also while cutting!!
I hope this call meets your expectations John , and that it gets plenty of time East of the Slash chasing those swamp gobblers. Roll a few with her friend.

Thanks Jeff,  That was a special piece of cypress given to me by Dr. Winn's grandson Eustis.  A fine turkey hunter in his own right.  Dr. Winn used to hunt East of the Slash a lot and that call will spend a lot of time there also.  You did an excellent job on it my friend.  Can't wait to play her.

Just send ole Billy Bob and Joe Bob this way.  I'll look for the blue smoke and lock my calls up.
