Long sleepless night
« on: October 31, 2011, 08:54:25 AM »
Up in Illinois bowhunting. Shot a monster right before dark. Waiting it out this am to go find him. Hopefully I'll have pictures up this evening. I'm killing time right now waiting to go find him.

I shot at 22 yards 10 minutes before dark and thought I made a really good shot. Got out this morning and found a little blood and black hair. I look back at my stand and there's a branch hanging that I hit. I never saw it when I shot. Really sickening but never found the deer. I wish I had never hit him but that's bow hunting I guess. Hopefully I'll get another shot at him.

Shad,

I appreciate the offer. I'm just south off Pitssfield in Pike county.

Very sorry to hear this Adam.  I have bowhunted for just about 40 years and it has happened to me before as well, but only once and I'll never forget it.

Pike Co. huh, yikes, that's the land of the giants for Whitetail monsters!!

I've relived that shot 50 times and the only thing I can figure is that the branch deflected it. It wasn't nerves and it was a relatively easy shot. Looking back at it this morning I should have given him one more step. I was sick to my stomach when I saw that branch broke ever.
