Last turkey of the spring season.

 It has been a great season once again but I am sad to see it come to a close .  I spent almost more days inside locked up due to the rain than I did hunting this spring . I managed to take four great gobblers in two states.
I went out for the last day afield yesterday and was greeted with hard gobbling on the limb but the birds went silent as soon as they touched ground . With the threat of hard rain coming , I set out a blind in a great travel corridor and waited them out . At 11:30 , I told myself "3 more hours " luckily it only took twenty more minutes . I had been soft calling every half-hour since fly-down on a scratchbox ,when I heard a single cluck behind me . I clucked twice and soft-yelped once on one of my walnut and spalted poplar short boxes  , when I heard a faint yelp . I looked up as a hen walked by at 5 paces . I clucked at her once to get her attention and she started looking for me . Suddenly I see movement to my left and 3 gobblers walk in making only a single cluck . The biggest bird was in full strut and drumming hard . I took aim and ended my season in great style . This gobbler weighed in at 22.5 lbs and sported a 11 5/8" beard . One spur was broken and only spanned 1 1/8" but the other side was a sharp 1 9/16" .  I hate to see it come to an end and I am already looking forward to fall season ! Congratulations to everyone on a great spring gobbler season !!!

NOT ONLY DOES HE HAVE A GREAT SET OF GAFFS, LOOK AT THAT BEARD ALSO---A paintbrush.
A great season Shadtree---way to go....now we gotta set back and watch the Northern boys have all the fun !!!

Congrats Bob on a great season ,,,and a last day hunt . We got on two early afternoon yesterday . They came in like it was early morning . Stepson killed a sapling instead of the bird though  *cry*. No horse has a longer face than he did when that old bird flew off untouched .

 Is that a Highland Co. bird ?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Heck of a beard !

This one was an Athens co. bird  but I took my first one down there by Belfast and last week I took a good friend to Belfast and he pulled the trigger on a big 3 yr old gobbler . I love hunting down there ! You are lucky to live so close ! Did you let him take home a piece of the sapling for his trophy ? I bet it was alot of fun anyway !!
