Me and Tedl10 went this morning with the hopes of getting him his first of the season. We had a bird hammering on the roost and Ted set up on the road he was supposed to come down. I set up 30 yards behind him behind a curve to hopefully get the bird to come right by Ted. Well, as luck would have it, two birds start coming down the road, then at the last minute, go around Ted and come up another road that was 60 yards from me. As soon as I saw his head, I laid the hammer down. stepped it off at 60 yards. It is my furthest shot by a mile. We were excited, but it was bitter sweet since we were there for Ted to get a bird. Well we went to another part of the property and hit the baby doll box and one hammers WAAAAYYYY off. We start trucking it and I get to where I can see him strutting in the middle of a field. I honestly didn't think there was any way that he would come out of that field, but a couple yelps later he was gobbling and coming this way. 10 minutes later I see Ted look down his gun barrel and he dust rolled him at 25 yards. As Ted said, it was two of the best hunts I have ever been on, back to back. We were probably only on the ground a total of 25 minutes and got two birds. Mine had a 9.5 inch beard and 1 1/8 and 1 1/4 inch spurs and Ted's had an 11 inch beard, weighed 22 pounds, and had 1 inch spurs. It was a toad.
