My daughter's first turkey.
« on: March 27, 2011, 08:36:01 PM »
After uncooperative weather yesterday, I took my 7 year old daughter (the twin who didn't break her arm) out this morning for her first turkey hunt. It was an exciting morning for her as we heard a lot of gobbling on the roost and on the ground. We probably could have held out for a longbeard as I had several in the vicinity that were pretty vocal, but when a band of 6 jakes came in running and stopped at 16 yards from us, I went for the sure thing and told her to take the shot. She was just as happy as if it had been an 11" longbeard. She thinks she is big stuff now. I am so proud of her.

Clint, that is so exciting I know you are smiling behind that camera. Great picture of the bird over her shoulder! I saved that one! It is a sight for sure! Congratulations and maybe the other sister can get one soon also!

There is no better gift. We were hunting just 300 or so yards up the hollow behind my dad's house. I called him to tell him she killed and to come back to take some pictures. When she saw my dad walking back, she sprinted 100 yards in a dead run to him and jumped in his arms. I have never seen her so excited. She trembled for an hour after she killed him. She told me that it was the most exciting thing that has ever happened to her.

I may have created a monster. When we got home, she asked me could she borrow some of my turkey hunting magazines.

Those pics really made my day... Awesome!  I showed them to my 3 year old daughter and she harassed me for an hour about when she could go hunting.
