New caller design #2

A bit OFF KILTER there GK. I would lose the OFF-Set of the PLUGS. Keep at it. I do not want to tell you, I bet it sounds as good as it looks. It helps no-one. I hope most here, will follow suit. I am sure you know that the Plugs are OFF a Bit there. I am NOT bashing your caller, Trying to be honest, that way, it helps all, Builder, and Buyer/Hunter. I say, NO-Mo-rear end-kizzin. Fine line, between Constructive Criticism, and being mean. I am not being mean. I see you like to turn, keep at it, only a Matter o time GK, you will be there. Nice striker... Hope I have not upset you, and also, hope I have stared a new trend. " Honesty " ....

   I noticed that I got the one plug off a bit before I took the pic.Problem on this one was I was dealing with spalted wood so I had to do some extra sanding on that side to get a smooth finish.There was a soft spot there.Thats just part of callmaking. Sometimes you have to sacrifice perfection to save a call.The call sounds really good as have both the calls I have used this pattern on so it will hunt and kill birds just fine.To me looks are important but sound comes first and there are some you will make that you wouldn't enter in the decorative category but would fare well in the hunting category.I choose to appeal to the hunters and know that most will not care about small flaws in the appearance if the call kills turkeys.This is not to say I will not strive to build all my calls to defined measurements and consistency but I am new so I will make some mistakes as I progress.The plugs as they are being called are actually laminates only about .1-.2 thick and have no affect on the sound of the call yet they are one more feature I have to worry about spacing on.You are right, you can only comment on the appearance and not the sound on a forum pic and honesty is the best practice if you comment at all as long as it is constructive and not meant to degrade.You and I know each other well enough I can believe this is not your intention.

I may adjust the size on them some K but I won't be losing them.They're part of my signature.....

Its a signature thing Alan. Its hard to come up with a new design these days on pots somebody else is not already doing.Kinda like Daryl Slaton"s turkey track pattern he uses on his holes on every call. When you see that you know its one of his without asking.The "plugs" are actually laminate circles embedded into the wood and have no affect on the sound of the call.I just chose to try and be different instead of the same ole same ole or copying someone else's design that I like.

I really like you thinking outside the box. But if you loose the plugs you have an awesome call. Keep it up.
