Rangers slugger Hamilton avoids alcohol, temptation in Rangers clinching celebration
FOXSportsSouthwest.com

As the Texas Rangers clinched the American League West on Saturday, the typical celebration went on in the locker room after the game.

Corks were popped...beer was poured...everyone celebrated the teams first division title in eleven years.

Everyone, that is, except Rangers MVP candidate outfielder Josh Hamilton.

As his teammates partied inside the visitor locker room in Oakland, Hamilton quickly dressed in a nearby trainer's room before leaving.

Hamilton has battled drug and alcohol addiction during his career.

Some teammates wanted to pour bottles of water on Hamilton to celebratory fashion, but Hamilton had to convince them otherwise...it was church day in Oakland and he had plans to speak along with some of the Athletics players with fans after the game about his stories of faith.

"So it would be kind of hypocritical of me to come in here and douse myself with alcohol and smoke cigars and then go out there and talk about Jesus," Hamilton said.

Hamilton had been thinking about how he would handle the situation for weeks.

"I'm going to have goggles on, duct tape over the mouth and either a wetsuit or raincoat," Hamilton told the Dallas Morning News a few week ago. "It can't get on your skin. It'll soak through your skin.

Rom 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
