The freedom that we Americans experience today comes with a heavy price
that is immeasurable.
Sadly, many Americans today appear to be so busy with/in their daily
lives and schedules that they could use a friendly reminder about the
true meaning of Memorial Day. For many, Memorial Day marks the
beginning of summer, the opening of the community swimming pool, the
start of a family vacation, the first barbecue of the year, or a
much-needed three-day weekend. For the shopping malls and department
stores, Memorial Day is just another excuse for one more spectacular
sales event.
Here's my challenge to you; Remind as many people as you can to take a
simple time out from their busy schedules if only for a few moments and
reflect upon the true meaning of Memorial Day.
It only takes a little time to read the fine print located on the bottom
of the sales receipt for the price of our freedom. I know you are
already familiar with the fine print and that it's been stamped with the
words "PAID IN FULL with the lives of our men and women of the United
States Armed Forces."
To all of those great Americans who made the supreme sacrifice for our
freedom, they passed on the torch of freedom and Democracy to each of us
to carry and it hold high. Lest we forget that if we ever break faith
with those who died they shall never rest under all those crosses, row
on row that now mark their places.
To the real "American Idols" who gave up all their tomorrows so I could
have mine, thank you.
