Put one on the ground......( Updated with pics this time)
« on: May 04, 2010, 11:44:07 AM »

.......and it got back up.  :'(  As it was flying away I emptied the Benelli with no luck on nocking it down again.  :-[

Called it in with the Walnut over Black Limba with an Osage base made by Lee.

That is awful, for you and the bird! I know you are sick at your stomach! Maybe it will never happen again!

If you hunt Tom, it's bound to happen sometime. Don't let it get you down.

It was upsetting and will bug me for a long time.

I took the gun out tonight to just check and make sure it was still shooting OK and I found out that for some reason the pattern is stringing. I could not believe it. I tryed 2 different barrels with the same choke and both barrels I put on the gun patterned great except for the original one. I also tryed another choke the same as the one I have in it and still patterned like crap. I am not to sure what happened but I will be on the phone with Benelli tommorrow.

 Thanks guys for reply's.

It wasn't the first time this happened to me or a turkey and I am sure it won't be the last. Maybe he will be back in the tree in the am.

Put this one on the ground this morning at the same tree where I had shot the other one. It was a long hour and a half watching him strut on the top of the hill in the field. I didn't think he would come in because of the hens that were meeting up with him in the field. Good thing for a friend of mine having an extra barrel.

Brought him in with a Walnut over Popular short box from Frozen Crow. Thanks, Lee! And a diaphram call.

20lbs. with a 10 inch beard and 1 inch spirs.
