Dang it i almost hyperventilated this morning!!
Went out this morning for youth day. Got up at 4:30, got my face paint on and was out the door about 5:10. Hit the hunting spot and walked in. Around 5:45 a big truck on the highway around 300 yards away hit its brakes and a gobbler gobbled a ways back in. Decided to stay put. Hit the slate side on my alum/slate pot and what sounded like 2 jakes roared (great gobbles for jakes) back. Hen yelped back at me. I called sparingly and soon enough 2 more gobblers were hammerin back. Not on fire but fired me up! Around 6:05 a hen flew down, and then another. Next thing i see the 2 jakes walking down towards them. Mind you im facing forward and they flew down to my left. Then i look over and a gobbler is walking down the hill. I cutt and he goes into full strut! But this is at about 65 yards and i wanted him at 30. He hung up on me.. It was awesome, but i overcalled a bit, lol! He started to spook and walk back along with the two jakes, so i yelped and the jakes turned back around. The hen started yelping so i got her fired up and she came over to check me out. The big gobbler had just disappeared. She came over and at about 15 yards, I had a shot on one of the jakes but i would have shot the hen too so i didnt. She saw something she didnt like and she spooked along with the jakes. I tried to shoot one of the jakes as it was fast walking but to no avail, i missed!

Thats cool with me though because i want that gobbler!!! We circled back around and used a different call and they gobbled a few times but nothing. Figured we didnt want to spook them more so we will be back there in a week! IT was an awesome morning though!
