Benelli Nova- Tapping for Scope

I've got an older Nova that I wanted to get tapped for scope mounts but I had a gunsmith tell me it was a waste of time due to the Nova's aluminum receiver. (He stated that the screws would eventually strip out due to the guns recoil).   I can't say I believe him, the new supernovas are already tapped for scope mounts.   

Any advise or anyone had any past problems.

He's full of it! Don't have a Nova but have Aluminum scopes and although the principal is the same just reversed they are tapped for mounts and never a problem! I would not hesitate.

I know a few guys that had good results with a B-square mount on a Nova. No drilling or tapping required.

Mzlhunter,  I've looked at the B-square mounts but was concerned that it uses the holes for the receiver pins.  It looks to me that I would have to remove the mounts and scope to break the gun down for cleaning, which I don't care to do. Have they had any problems with this?  It always makes me uneasy to remove a scope.  It may not change the zero, but I wouldn't feel comfortable until I checked each time.

I'm not sure about the Nova, but I was told the same on my Rem 870.  I got it done.

I'm almost certain I've seen one drilled and tapped though.

Also, the B square puts the scope up higher.  I wondered why everyone got their guns drilled and tapped.  I got one done and now want them all done!

I won't go back to a b square, but my gun(s) are only used for turkeys!  If you used them for multiple uses, the b square would be the way I'd go.

Porter, this gun is designated for Turkey killing only.  The scope would not be normally be removed.

The people I know who use the B-Square mounts only take them off after season to completely clean the gun. They say they aren't off a that much when they shoot the following spring. A guy I hunted with this fall claims he can see under the mount good enough to shoot if his scope fogs but I have no expirience with this as I've never used a scope for turkey hunting.

You can have it drilled and tapped...just be sure whatever gunsmith does it has done a Nova in the past.
