Debating on purchasing a new SxS
« on: March 23, 2010, 08:17:48 PM »
Ok I'm not big on buying used guns, so I figured I'd pick the brains of a few of you SxS shooters and see if any of the new ones are worthy.  I see Stoeger has some and I've seen some newer Steven models.  I'd like double triggers and screw in chokes (I know this might go against the traditionalist approach).

Interested to see what people recommend!  Oh and it has to be a 20 :)

Mike, check out the CZ web site cz-usa.com they have a double triggered SxS called a Bobwhite it comes in a 20.I have a Ringneck in 20 that I absolutely love.Very good workmanship and feels great ,shoots well also.I feel the chrome lined barrels are also a plus.I'm going to run a Improved Mod in one barrel with Fed Grand Slam #6 lead and Trulock .581 with Hevi-13 #7's in the other.Good luck with your choice.Todd

Ditch the screw in choke idea and get something old. Lefever, Fox, LC Smith.

My only concern is not wanting to be like No Net and have no fingers.  I just couldn't trust one of the older guns.  I'm wanting to buy a new one.  I love the ones you have, but I'm not sure I could go that route...    Now if I could find an older one without 30" barrels... I might be interested :P

I did a bit of research on this some time back.  I prefer a single trigger, but a lot of folks demonize them.  I've had no problems with mine.

Of the new guns the CZ is a probably the best bang for the buck.  Steer clear of the Weatherby models, as I had terrible luck with them.  Watch out for the cheap Russian, Italian, and Spanish guns.  A friend of mine has the Smith and Wesson 20 and loves it.  If money is no object, the Beretta Silver Hawk is superb.

Keep in mind with older, used guns that most wont accommodate magnum chamberings and chrome lined barrels aren't all that common.  Interchangeable chokes would have to be added.

Mike

You have some options here.........but price will become a factor in about half of the good ones! The best and strongest sxs made was the Winchester model 21. There are some around.........although they can be pricey....these were offered in 3 in chambers in both 20 and 12. If you are on a budget and looking for new vs old....the CZ has a good reputation. I would opt for the single trigger...myself. You may look into Stephens and Stoeger...I haven't seen any of the newer models.

Mike you might want to check Gun Broker that will give you a idea what to expect to pay and also look at a lot of different types of guns.
