Split box Turpins
« on: November 07, 2020, 10:32:53 AM »
Working on the second split box Turpin for grandson Cooper.  I finished the first one shown back in July.  With the cold fall weather I will finish the second one. These two are out of some of Mr. Wade Wineman Jr.’s Whiskey Island crotch  walnut.  Used Billy Buice’s technique of splitting and reversing the wood so the grain runs like you like it on both sides.  Absolutely love the technique!  Mr. E

Great looking calls.

I am sure they will admire and cherish such a thoughtful gift from grandpa. I hope you get to share many memories hunting together!

Michael

I didn't realize that Billy used this technique.  But this reminds me of something....2 years ago at Nashville during the comps, I saw 2 different callmakers do this with their 1-sided box calls and both calls ran very well.
